Ethical Storyteling Consultancy

Photo of a sunset or dusk over a body of water with a blurred silhouette of an object in the foreground, possibly a mirror or screen, reflecting the water and sky.

When arts individual artists, organisations, documentary productions, acting schools, theatres, arts institutions invite people to share vulnerable personal material, they take on a responsibility. Most want to honour it. Many don't yet have the frameworks, protocols, or training to do so consistently.

I work with organisations to build the conditions for ethical practice: not as an add-on once problems arise, but as a planned, embedded part of how they work. I bring both clinical expertise and fifteen years of experience inside the creative industries — I understand the pressures of production, the culture of rehearsal rooms, and the particular dynamics that arise when personal testimony becomes creative material.

Why this matters
Storytelling industries increasingly use the language of trauma and care, yet the structures that would make that language real are often absent. Participants are invited to open up about migration, abuse, grief, or survival and are then left to carry the aftermath alone. Wellbeing should be part of responsible production and pedagogy as a matter of course — not an afterthought once the cameras are off. That gap is where I work.

How I can help

  • Organisational consulting — working with productions, acting schools, and arts organisations to embed psychological safety into how they teach, rehearse, and create

  • Protocols and frameworks — informed-consent practices, participant care plans, and aftercare structures tailored to your context

  • Training and workshops — equipping crews, educators, and facilitators to recognise distress, respond appropriately, and hold vulnerable material ethically

  • Script and content advisory — psychological review of material involving trauma, identity, or sensitive subject matter before production begins

Hourly consulting fee: $250
